Helps beat the heat

Helps beat the heat

In 2011, scientists from the Stanford University predicted that summers will be hotter in the next 20 to 60 years if greenhouse gas emissions continued to rise. Fast forward to today, their prediction has become a reality across the globe. Tropical countries suffer the most as they experience major shifts in temperature. Just last year, The National Climate Assessment said that summers have gotten warmer in every United States region. But it’s not just greenhouse gases that trap heat – so does your hair. The solution? Shave your head to cool your body.

We lose one third of our body heat through the scalp. Scalp hair is responsible for trapping a layer of heat above the scalp in order to keep our bodies warm. Dark hair colors also have the ability to absorb heat from the sun. Both functions are useful in cold weather. On a warm climate however, it only makes the heat intolerable. Choosing to shave your head will stop your body from trapping unecessary heat, so you stay cool amidst the hot weather.

Hair care tips for women: Shaving off your hair doesn’t come without a price. Because aside from trapping heat, those luscious locks also protect you from the sun’s damaging UV rays. A bald head therefore makes your scalp, face, ears, and neck vulnerable to direct sun exposure. Getting a bad sunburn should be the least of your worries since ultraviolet rays are also known causes of skin cancer. You can have added protection by applying non-comodogenic sunblock on these areas before heading outdoors.
