Henderson, Nevada
Who would have thought? One of America’s safest cities is just 15 minutes away from the “City of Sin.” Henderson is known as the gateway to Las Vegas but little do people know that it’s also quite livable. The city offers exciting opportunities for recreation and entertainment, but with a small town vibe typical of Nevada suburbs.
Why it’s safe to live in Henderson: The city has a thriving population of more than 280,000 but the crime rate is pretty low at 137 crimes per 100,000 people. Compared to most large cities in the U.S., Henderson saw the second largest drop in violent crimes which decreased by 19 percent in the past year.
Only 9 percent of residents are below poverty line. While some would consider this high, Henderson makes up for it with one of the highest officer-to-population ratios in the nation. For every 820 residents, the city has one available officer who can respond to emergencies. Henderson is also the only city in Southern Nevada that provides full services to its residents including police, fire, and utility.
There are various housing options for those who want to move in. But you won’t be without a job since Henderson has a thriving economy and enough job openings. Outside of its borders, you can look for employment opportunities in Las Vegas where there are plenty more.
