Naperville, Illinois

Naperville is only a year older than Chicago, though it has managed to retain a small-town charm unlike other developing cities in the state. Of course, it isn’t really a small town – it’s one of the large U.S. cities with a population of more than 140,000. Local amenities aren’t typical of a sleepy town but of an ambitious city that’s quite sentimental. This is especially true for the downtown area where high-end shops and restaurants inhabit old buildings. Naperville is a safe city you can call “home” as soon as you move in.

Why it’s safe to live in Naperville: CNN’s Money magazine wouldn’t recognize Naperville as one of the “Best Places to Live in the United States” without good reason. It has the lowest poverty rate in the country, which helps explain why it has a relatively low crime rate of 73 violent crimes for every 100,000 people. Another possible explanation for its low crime rate is the educational background of its population. 98 percent of adults aged 25 and older hold a high school diploma and more than 63 percent have a bachelor’s degree or higher.

Getting a job shouldn’t be a problem. Naperville has one of the highest employment rates in Illinois. Not only that, the city offers a decent salary for job seekers who can expect an average household income of $105,000 in a year.
