Venice, Italy
Venice seems to be stuck in time with its winding canals and unique architecture. No
matter what time it is of the year, it never loses its charm. It’s a magical place to say the least, and one of the most beautiful cities on earth.
Venice offers respite to travelers who want nothing to do with cars and traffic. The entire city is built over water, making it a pedestrian-only destination. Walking is usually enough to get around, though you can always board any available water vessel. Water taxis and water buses are more efficient for traveling, but gondolas will give you unforgettable rides.
Like any Italian city, Venice has a number of historic churches. The oldest of which is San Giacomo di Rialto built in 421 AD – a church you should visit solely for its age. The Basilica of Santa Maria Assunta is no more beautiful on the outside, though it is best known for mosaics that depict Christian iconography. Saint Mark’s Basilica is unparalleled in both size and artistry, as it combines Byzantine, Gothic, and Italian architecture.
There are plenty of museums in Venice, and a Museum Pass gives you one-time access to a total of ten for the next 6 months. The pass covers entry to the Museums of St. Mark’s Square, along with those on the islands of Murano and Burano.
